WHAT IS MEV?
Mechanical extract ventilation (MEV) runs continuously and pulls stale, moist air out of wet rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms. Unlike MVHR, it doesn’t supply air or recover heat; fresh air comes in through trickle vents instead.
Because it runs all the time, dust builds up on the fan and in the ducts and valves, and extract rates drop. That’s when condensation and mould start to appear.
Moisture isn’t being extracted fast enough from wet rooms.
Bathroom and kitchen steam takes a long time to clear.
Dust build-up or worn fan bearings.
